Corey Conners shot a steady second round at the BMW Championship, with a pair of bogeys and a lone birdie contributing to a 1-over 71 on the round.

Conners bogeyed the par-3 third hole and the par-4 11th to sandwich a birdie on the par-4 seventh.

Taylor Pendrith was the second Canadian to tee off in the morning, and the Richmond Hill, Ont. native got his round off to a strong start. Pendrith hit birdies on holes four, eight and nine to finish his front-9 at 3-under.

His back-9 was shaping up to be just as strong, as Pendrith overcame a bogey on 10 to bounce back with birdies on 11 and 16, but things unravelled for the 34-year-old at the finish line. Bogeys on 17 and 18 left Pendrith at 2-under for the day and for the tournament - tied for 13th, but a distant trail behind clubhouse leader Robert MacIntyre (14-under).

Nick Taylor was the last Canadian to start his day, and he bounced back from a shaky first round nicely with four birdies to finish with a 2-under 68. Taylor opened his second round with a birdie on the par-4 first hole, and added birdies on four, 14 and 18.

The only errors for Taylor, a native of Winnipeg, Man., came on nine and 10, where he bogeyed both par-4s.

Pendrith entered the event sitting 35th in the FedEx Cup standings and needs to rise at least five spots to keep his season alive. The Richmond Hill, Ont. native got off to a strong start, posting two birdies on the first four holes but was undone by bogeys on the seventh and 14th holes.

Conners over came a tough start to his round after two bogeys and a double through the first five holes and managed to claw back to finish even for the day. He sits in 16th in the FedEx Cup standings after dropping three spots last week at the St. Jude Classic.

Winnipeg's Taylor currently sits 22nd in the FedEx Cup standings after falling four spots last week.

With the starting strokes format eliminated, reaching the top 30 has never been more important with the whole field entering the Tour Championship on level footing in the winner-take-all event. A whopping 2,000 points will be given to the winner of this week's tournament, enough to propel anyone into the top five, but the 280 points of a top-10 finish are also enough to rocket any player into the East Lake field.
